Alcohol Is Alcohol Is Alcohol Or Is There Different Types Of Alcohol

I dont really know what I am talking about here but here goes.

If you were to take a range of different alcoholic drinks and extract the pure alcohol element from them, would the pure alcohol be exactly the same when compared to each other?

Just curious.

I only know of two types of alcohol: methyl and ethyl. Ethyl alcohol is the stuff you can drink; however, somebody with more scientific knowledge could give you a more precise answer.

There are lots of different alcohols from methanol to ethanol to propanol to.....well, lots of them. But all alcoholic drinks contain different amounts of the same alcohol ie ethanol.

I thought hang-overs were due to higher alcohols - but that may be an old theory.
