Saphires, Emeralds, Rubies and others are very easy, in fact the first lasers were made using man made ruby rods about 8 inches long
Diamonds eg. were first made by the General Electric Co. in1955. They are made by mixing graphite with either cobalt or nickel and subjecting the whole to pressures of 60,000 atmospheres,at a temperature of 1327 degrees C. Mostly these diamonds are brownish, or yellow, fit only for industrial use.
'Diamonds are forever ?' Just a myth, but don't hold your breath.
