A few questions so someone learned can answer your Q.

Ignoring the reason for having a chandelier in a conservatory....., is the chandelier an electric one with light bulbs or a proper one with candles.

Are you sure the top of the conservatory is proper glass? Most conservatory roofs are made of a synthetic material that filters the UV rays and/or light to reduce heat and damage to furniture etc.

Are the 'crystals' real or plastic/acrylic? Are there any round crystal on the chandelier?

Potentially, a broken empty bottle can start.
If the sun's rays can bounce off the chandelier it is potentially dangerous. The same can be said for fancy prisms in windows, dreamcatchers, glass paperweights, crystal cut vases and candlesticks, mirrors, even a crystal doorknob

Also cans such as hairspray and deodorant. My bathroom window is east facing so I have to be very careful to keep such things in a cupboard or out of the window's range.

Buy some blinds ;-)
OK in Manchestger where the sun nardly shines
I think the distance from chandelier to floor or furnishings would be too great for heat to be produced in sufficient amount to cause burning.
Try it. Get some crystal ( lead) glass drops from an antiques shop or a jumble sale, hang them in the sun, and see how close the furniture/curtains/magazines have to be before they burst into flames.
Actually, a magnifying glass a few centimetres from a piece of furniture in full sunlight can cause a fire in a few minutes. A roof-shade designed to stop the sun striking anywhere on the chandelier would do the trick, but that is easier said than done.
ruddy heck hc4361. Can you tell me where I can buy an asbestos plant/shrub for my conservatory. After your advice I have just emptied mine of everything and removed the roof !!! :-)

In all seriousness. Thanks for those interesting threads. Makes you think doesn't it ?
