Why is it that electricity is measured in multiples of 11? Like 220 V 440V. Transmissions too are in 11KV 44KV etc.

We used to be 240v before we were in Europe - but some places have 110v

I know that we have always been in Europe - I meant the EU/EC/EEC/Common Market.

All down to transmission efficiency but you also have to consider frequency in the equation also
