Quicksand
Is there any such thing as quicksand?
As in the movies where people get sucked under?
Or is it a bit of a myth?

(So the 'getting sucked under' bit is purely in the imaginations of writers and film makers). However you can still die from incoming tides or from hypothermia.

all you need is an updraft of water under the sand so it becomes squidgy and will act like quicksand
the thing is to lie flat as quig as poss so that you will float as in water
same thing happens in ground liquefaction in earthquakes
( water forced into ground makes it fluid)
pretty amazing
