While the world argues over whether the correct answer is 1 or 9 . . . I get 7 as the answer.
So what's the problem with everyone else?

Instead of working out the stuff inside the brackets expand it first using the 2 outside giving 2 terms.
6 / 2 + 4 = ?
Then amuse oneself by doing the division except that means use the 1 from inside the brackets and not the 2, which put you into deepest do do.
3 + 4
Then do the addition to get the wrong answer.

I'm pretty confident that mibn's answer of 7 was just messing.
JD, the concept of BODMAS is that you convert what is inside the brackets to a single term, not do everything adjacent to the brackets preceding any other operation. People can still insist that the answer is 1, but not for the reasons you are giving, which are completely a misunderstanding of what BODMAS means.
Also, ff... groan...

As I see it the problem appears to be a matter of how we are to interpret . . . ()
