Weather In Preston Lancs.

My wife would like to know why we get so little snow in this area. When the rest of the country gets heavy snow, we get little or none. Some would say we are lucky, however my wife loves the snow. So, all you meteorologists, do your stuff.

I think your contention that the rest of the country gets heavy snow is not correct. Snow is rare in the UK, we get 'heavy snow' once every 12 years or so even then it's rarely more than 3 or 4 inches.
I am 66 and can only remember snow that was more than 6 inches 3 or 4 times in my life!

More likely because there isn't much high ground around Preston (only the Lancashire moors) which will force any rain laden clouds upwards, thereby turning water to snow/sleet. Plus Preston will still get the benefit of some sea air from the west which will be warmer,

Because Jogger Jayne visited North End with her beloved Seagulls recently, and she is so radiant, the snow runs scared.

You can look at the last year month by month, last January Preston had snow on 2 days. It does not say how much snow it was though.

It's the same in Bedford. We always seem to miss the weather extremes, thank goodness.

also, more seriously, since the infamous cooling towers were taken down, that will have curtailed the white stuff - they can put up quite a snowy micro-climate on a very cold night, wit Didcot Power Station and the village of Sutton Courtenay, quite a winter-wonderland in the past and when the temp went -5 and the wind from the east.
