can a normal house hold produce enough methane gas from kitchen waste and human faeces to power and heat the property and become self-sufficient

with other 'green' alternatives out there, I'm not sure why you would want to use this method, or would be able to produce enough 'waste' to keep the home fires burning.


Not likely... people I know who use a methane collection system (it's quite complex) and rely on a cow and other livestock to produce the raw materials say they require about 1 ton of said material per month. Their's is a 4 member family living in a home excavated out of a side hill. The best 1 human can do is produce about 40 to 60 pounds per year. Additionally, for the system to work efficiently, it also require the use of straw and other organic materials...
