Mr and Mrs Foreman were arrested in January but news of their detention, on unspecified security charges, emerged last week.

Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said that the couple, both aged 52, had "entered Iran under the guise of tourists" and "gathered information in multiple provinces of the country".

They had been on a motorbike trip around the world - their planned destination Australia.

What are their chances?  Pretty grim I'd say.

Probly be held for a couple of years then released. Daft to go there in the first place.

natural selection at work.

Tough, they were warned and ignored it thinking their liberal ways knew better so they must now suffere the consequences of their foolishness.

Iran will try to use them to extract money like they did with that Ratcliffe woman.  There they gor millions that no doubt went to Hamas and straight to murdering people.  I wonder if she realises the consequences of her right-on actions too?

Some never learn.  Stay away from these countries, they are NOT safe.

Having read what they posted on social media, one could be forgiven for thinking that all is sweetness and light and that they were dancing happily around maypoles with the people there.  Fools!

Typical trobiscite idiots, live in dream world then when they get up a certain creek without a paddle they cry out to get rescued to the people they hate the rest of the time. Hopefully a decade or two in an Iranian nick will serve to educate them.

Yes, they can find out what the Islamic extremists they want ot bring onto the country are really like.

It must be terrifying.  Worse still when you thought you knew better than the best advice.

These are the people that love Islam so it'll be good for them to get some real life experience.

Quite TTT.  And when they get back they can spread the good word.

Its good on the Iranian authorities to detect these two MI5 spies.A long term jail sentence in an Iranian hell-hole of a prison for these spies will deter the fascist British security services from sending spies into Iran for a while.

God sake,George Orwell would have a field day on this site.

Yup. Some AB users use 1984 as a manual 🤣

Bit like 2TK.

All i stated on Sunday was that these pair of chancers were MI5 spies. My answer was removed. Why?Now it seems the Iranian authorities have charged this pair with being MI5 spies.Answerbank,a very strange site, truth be told.

Why, oh, why do people not research these countries first, before setting off and go riding into the lion's den?  Common sense would surely dictate not to go anywhere near any of these middle eastern countries. It's been a hot spot for centuries and will never calm down.

MI5 spies? What evidence do you have to such a silly statement?

14:56 it was tongue in cheek me old china, of course they ain't spies. We can photograph the mad mullah's kazi from space, no need for spies. They just trump up these silly charges so they can bang them up then try and extort dosh out of our shower of a government.

14:55 Because these people are idealist idiots, they think everyone in the world will love them because they are liberal.

@14.56.What evidence do you have that these arent MI5 spies?
