If you chat on a digital telephone for 30 minutes , how many bits of information get trasnmitted, if 8 bit samples are sent 8000 times a second?

At an average of 6 characters a word, how long would 200 words take to send via email , with 1 byte per character and a telephone channel sending 64000 bits a second?

60 seconds in a min * 30 mins = 1800

8 bit samples * 8000 = 64000

1800 * 64000 = ?

6 chars a word * 200 words = 1200 characters

8 bits per character (byte) * 1200 = 9600

9600 / 64000 = ?

BTW, a modem only transmits at 56000 bits per second, not 64000.

Yes you can get a modem that transmits 64000 bits a second.

That link doesn't work for me, but as he/she says " a telephone channel" ISDN springs to mind. This is 64k for a single channel.
