maths help please

It's so close to 6 square metres that you'll probably need at least 7, maybe more, allowing for wastage.

Yes, as Hammer says, you will not be able to buy 5.9915 sq metres. You will have to take into account what widths the floor covering is supplied in. I suspect it is not made in widths greater than 5 metres, so you will have to run it lengthways. I imagine you do not want any joins so this means you will have to buy at least 5.210 metres of material at least 1.150 metres wide.

Assuming the supplier sells in 0.5m units and 1.5m is the minimum width available, you will have to pay for (5.5 x 1.5) = 8.25 square metres. If the minimum width available is 2 metres your requirement will increase to 11 square metres � almost twice as much as you need!.

sorry, i should have said.. im looking at laminate flooring.....pack of 9 covers 2.19m2...each board is 1290mm x 189mm,from wikes.

If you buy 3 packs (27 boards) you should have enough. Laying them longways (that is with the long side of the board running in the same direction as the long side of your hall) you will need 6 boards to almost cover the width and 4 boards to almost cover the length. This will actually cover (6 x 0.189) = 1.134m by (4 x 1.29) = 5.85144 sq.m. This will leave a gap of 50mm across the width and 16mm down the length which you can easily fill from the remaining three boards.

If you lay them crossways you will have to cut 740mm off every board and your 27 boards will not quite be sufficient. It will leave you with a gap of 107mm across the hall.

Do not lay laminate flooring crossway, lay it longways, also start of with random cuts or you will end up with one join every so often, either that or looking like brick wall.

Maybe Wicks would let you buy loads more than you should theoretically need, and let you return (unopened) what you don't use. Or just give Wicks your measurements and let them figure out what you should need - but, if you haven't done it before, you'll probably make some mistakes and ruin a "tile" or two.
