What is the process where a nucleus disintergrates called? Also what is the smallest part of an element called?

When a nucleus disintegrates due it's own instability this is called radioactive decay ( I think this is what you mean) . It could also be called nuclear fission


Hopefully one of the two will sound familiar to you and you'll know which answer they want - strictly speaking either is correc


The smallest part of an element is an atom (you can split an atom into its constituent particles but if you do its not that element any more).


So because Gold is an element you can have 1 atom of Gold but if you split that it's not gold any more.

This could be SPALLATION, - clue from Daily Telegraph crosswrod Sat 8th April

And the other one looks like ATOMS, from the same crossword, I think.
