For some inks, soaking the stain in milk prior to washing will help.

Cyclohexane (CH2)6 is good, non-polar solvent for removing ballpoint ink - and also excellent for removing chewing gum.

Liquid 'Vanish' in your washing machine used to be the bees knees for removing ball-point pen ink. I don't know how effective it might be these days, since Reckitt bought it over and messed about with the original formula.

If it's blue fountain pen ink buy an ink eraser pen and use the white end. It won't work for black.

For any other ball point pen type of ink try the cheapest baby wipes (the good ones won't do it) or 'Stain Devils' magic little bottle specifically for ink.
