Glass Frosting

I was watching re-runs of CSI the other day, on it they had glass doors that frosted automatically when they closed. im guessing that these were done by placing a film over them, and connecting it up to a current supply, which is switched on/off in the hinge??
does anybody have any idea's where i can buy this stuff in the uk, i can wire everything up myself, but can i buy the 'film'??

I guess you could buy a film, but I thought they were done by having it manufactured between the two layers of glazing. It's then polarised with a current (though I can't remember whether that clears it or frosts it) like you say.

Cheers, thinking bout it now, i think it does actually clear it if theres a current.
after an afternoon searching yesterday i think ive found a couple of manufacturers in the UK that can do it.

I think its actually Liquid Cristal like in a LCD screen on a calculator, and there is a bar in New York that has that glass in the Bathrooms.

the lock ups in rembrant square toilets in amsterdam have these lcd doors that go opaque when locked
bit unerving though sat there wondering if the power fails and your seen in all your glory
