I have got stripes / bands running vertically down my fingernails ( darker in colour than the rest of the nail )

If I move a finger across the stripes/bands I can feel that they are slightly raised from the surface of the rest of the nail i.e the surface of the nail is not smooth and level all over - if you follow me .

Any serious explanation for the foregoing would be welcome , please

This is often believed to be caused by a Zinc deficiency. See a doctor first to eliminate other possible causes but that's the most common one.
I've got that as well. Any cakes that commonly have zinc in them that I can up my intake of?
If they are a darker/yellowy colour, you may have a mild cause of fungal nail, go see your doctor but i doubt it'll be fungal nail :)
Awk, naw - no funny colours. Just wee stripes/ridges running the length.

So... zinc cakes?
