What is the common name fro group 18 of the periodic table, which includes Helium and Neon

"Inert Gases" is an outmoded term (because, as stated, except for He & Ne they're not inert). Also, "Inert Gases" nowadays is applied to gases that are inert, but may be elemental OR molecular.
"Rare Gases" is also an older term. Possibly fallen out of use upon discovery of how abundant e.g. Helium is in the stars.
