why the smoke is not effected by gravity?

It is once the hot air in which the smoke particles are carried cools enough to allow the minute ash particles to fall to the earth. Just as a hot air balloon continues aloft as long as fresh hot air is introduced by the burner. Once the burner is turned off by the pilot the balloon begins to sink due to the affect of gravitiy. The sinking accelerates unless countered by additional warm air being supplied...
