if a broken lift was falling from around the 20th floor and you were to jump at the very last second before the lift hit the bottom would you beable to survive?

Lay flat on your front and you have a better chance of survival.
Of course not, you would be travelling at the same velocity as the lift and you would continue to drop at the same velocity minus the tiny fraction you got from jumping up.

Result?

Certain death!
Saw them try this out on mytbusters on sky and they came to to conclusion you couldn't!
