Convection due to reduced density in more molecularly active (warmer) water.
Question Author
sorry i dont understand
The water expands when it warms and becomes less dense. The cold water which is heavier, sinks and the lighter less dense rises.
In Layman's Terms, Warm Water is lighter in weight than the same volume of Cold Water.

Same volume, not same weight, Bluesman, i.e. the molecules in warm water are further apart than the molecules in cold water (due to their increased activity).

Just to be really confusing, ice is actually 9% larger in volume than water.
Heat causes matter to expand. This make them less dense ,and therefore lighter than the surrounding cold matter. This is why they rise.As hot matter rises, it soon loses its heat and becomes relatively colder. Thus, they sink. This rising and sinking of hot and cold fluids is known as convection currents.(which is not related to your syllabus)
