Simple rules.
acid + metal > metal salt + hydrogen
acid + base (metal oxide/hydroxide) > metal salt + water
acid + metal carbonate > metal salt + water + carbon dioxide
Acid rules
hydrochloric always forms a chloride salt
sulphuric always forms a sulphate salt
nitric always forms a nitrate salt
(The metal in the reactants completes the salt always named with the metal first)
