Zinc chloride + hydrogen - definitely. When you add a metal to an acid, a salt & hydrogen is produced. When you add an acid to an alkali, it always produces a salt and water. When an acid reacts with a metal carbonate (such as calcium carbonate) a salt is formed, along with water & carbon dioxide.
thanks ice maiden and 15godess15. where did you learn all that ice maiden, you obviously weren't filing your nails and discussing the lastest school hunk when the bunson burners were on! (ok so I lived to regret it)
Be careful with the answers - 15goddess15 has added water in the products incorrectly.
Simple rules.
acid + metal > metal salt + hydrogen
acid + base (metal oxide/hydroxide) > metal salt + water
acid + metal carbonate > metal salt + water + carbon dioxide
Acid rules
hydrochloric always forms a chloride salt
sulphuric always forms a sulphate salt
nitric always forms a nitrate salt
(The metal in the reactants completes the salt always named with the metal first)
