is there a quick way of converting a farenheit temperature into Celsius without using any thermometer or technology? just moved to Chicago and everything is in Farenheit. i do know that 32F is 0c, its been 34F today so know it must be pretty close to freezing point!

Fahrenheit to Celsius -
Subtract 32and multiply by 5, then divide by 9.

Celsius to Fahrenheit -
Multiply Celsius by 9, divide by 5 and add 32
The formula is F = (C x 9/5) +32

Every 1.8F change is equivalent to 1C.

An increase of 2F is a tad over 1C
As you want an approximate mental answer in Celsius which you have been used to I would use a rough guide such as:

subtract 32 and halve the remainder
Why not update your Microsoft calculater for free? it does all conversions.

thanks everyone, now i will know when i have to put my thermals on before stepping out! brrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Add 40 to either celcius or farenheit temperature

then if c to f multiply by 9 and divide by 5
or if f to c multiply by by 5 and divide by 9

Subtract 40 to give the answer

I like this method because I always found it difficult to remember whether to add or subtract 32 and whether to do it before or after the multilpies and divides
