This is a question from a quiz which should have only one answer, but I keep coming up with two!
Which star,in the constellation of Ophiuchus, is just under six light years away anf the fifth closest to star to Earth?

Thank you for that. barnards star is, I think, the required answer, but other searches list this as the third closest star to earth. The fifth closest is 8.5 light years distant
Perhaps you are being confused by a list such as this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nearest_s tars

which lists Barnard's Star as placed in the third closest stellar system but you will see is actually the fifth star in the list.
^^^ of course the above list has Barnard's Star as the 2nd closest because we inhabit the first system!

Thanks again - I think the 5.9 light years didtant means it has to be Barnards. I am going with that anyway.
