Surely they are hibernating by now???

I live in the country which is vacant in the week and upon my return NEVER see one in the winter months.

It must be a mutant, probably highly poisonous breed that can survive the British winters.

Do you live near a port or airport/base?
oh no hippy, I just hate that when they do the 'abseil' thingy down from the ceiling

eek

spray it with somethin and when it drops stomp on its brains

You know what...I had just been thinking 'not seen any hideous spiders around lately...' and hey ho, one arrives!! Maybe if I think 'not seen any hunks around lately...' ... (present company accepted!)
Squirt it with air freshener until it curls up and dies and it'll drop off onto the floor, then you can just scoop it up and put it in the toilet, where it will unbelievably come back to life and crawl out of the toilet and continue to roam round your house.
Oh!!...please don't kill it....trap it in a glass or jar and put him outside.Spiders do way more good than harm.....think of all the filthy flies they trap in the summer.

arghhh!!
I am a total phobic freak about everything - almost -BUT -I see a spider and tenderly take it outside where it would be happier.

Isnt that bizarre -the most common phobia and it doesnt bother me -just dont put me at the top of a tall building- as I have an overwhelming urge to jump -*yikes*

True what they say -different strokes for different folks.
Don't be killing spiders: if it weren't for them we wouldn't have the world wide web as we know it.
The ones in my house are definetely not hibernating!! I had to get my neighbour to come in and remove a large one from my kitchen yesterday:-( You have my sympathy Hippy!! Hairspray is good for spraying them with btw!
on nooooooooo im scratching reading this

it cannot be allowed to live

die
die
die

Pasta - you're more than welcome to come and do the deed! I don't go neear the hairy legged freaks!! (I don't mind them in the garden, but hey, they seem to have keys to the front door!!)
If the spider is on the floor then I try and trap it under glass and put it outside but if it's in a place I can't reach, then I'm sorry but just kill the ******, there are hundreds of them, they won't go extinct just yet.
Question Author
It's on the cornicing now!
It's a 50/50 gamble whetheer you kill it or not.

It is either a female, in which must die as males will come looking for her.

Or..........

A male looking for a mate.

However, it could be a male who is looking for a mate because he knows (actually hears!!!!!!) a female is lurking about.

If they mate they will have up to 300 baby spiders which will infest your house.

If you decide not to kill it and use the old glass technique, be sure to deposit it more than 30 yards away outside otherwise it shall return. But this time cold and hungry and very, very p!ssed off.

Question Author
You DID NOT say 300 babies!!! That is horrifiying! Please come and get the hideous thing - stilll on the cornice...
use hairspray, its wee leggies will stick together
weeal, you sound the sort of person who used to burn flies with a magnifying glass under the hot summer sun as a child, am I right or was that just me and my brother? :)
Question Author
But who will dispose of it...saying that..my dyson as been dubbed 'the spider elimiation device'. It means getting the attachments ot though...Oh I need a man!!
Spider !!!!!!!!!!!..........run for the hills ......( puts feet up on chair and scouts round floor and ceiling )
