Why is it when you clout your elbow on something you never know wether to laugh or cry? I always want to do both and I have never found out what causes that reaction.

But the bone you actually hit (the 'point') isn't your humerus (upper arm bone) it's your ulna - as someone said, the ulna nerve. I just felt my own elbow to make sure! Someone clearly sacrificed anatomical accuracy for the sake of a joke, how shocking ;-).
I hate doing it and it happens way too often, mostly on doorways.
