shooting stars

i was watching a shooting star out side last night, lighting up the sky then went dark then light up again and it lasted for a few seconds, and then for thirty seconds vanished and then all of a sudden very very fast one big glowing ball came out of no where and in the distance shot straight to the ground.
this shooting star was going at an angle across the sky do they do that ?come straight down from a angle across the sky
