red deisil instead of heating oil??

recently my neighbour clued me in that she has been using red deisil instead of heating oil. She said that the oil guy said it was ok but not to use it all the time. Does this sound right? Its just oil is up to �300.00 for 500 liters here and if you can use deisil we may have heat again!!
