Can a liquid be compressed?

Has anyone seen that advert on TV appearing regularly ny Exxon Mobil recently. The presenter is explaining that they extract the gas change it into a liquid and then compress it 6 times. I can understand if they had compressed the gas by 6 times but the liquid?

Is it really darkest just before dawn?

Have not seen the advert, but no-you cannot compress a liquid, that is the principle on which hydraulics is based!

You can compress some liquids somewhat but not by very much.

They extract a gas. Then they change it to a liquid by compressing it. However it would expect that it was more than six times.

For example. Propane is a gas at room temperature and normal pressure. If you compress it it will turn to a liquid at room tempreature. But you definitely cannot compress any liquid by six times.

Maybe they mean that, in order to change it from a gas into a liquid, they put it through a compressor 6 times?

Its been shown so many times on TV I was beginning to believe I had heard wrongly. But she definately puts it in that order and she does say the liquid compresses 6 times and uses her hands to show by how much. If there was a flaw in the advert I would have thought it would have been picked up by now?
