Because there is a total pr@t on here called in-your-ass who included the HTML tags for those attributes as part of his/her login name, and the AB folks can't be bothered to do anything about it - consequently whenever one of his/her posts appears in the list, all subsequent posts retain the attributes.
Where have you been, roj?
Question Author
Rojash, Thank you
Traditionally in the summer,Ethel, I reduce my workload and do a bit of gigging. This year, I'm gigging with one band, rehearsing with another, while setting up to arrange and produce a CD for a local songwriter.

PLUS one of my UK clients (whose entire business runs on my software) has just taken over a company in Canada and another in the States, so I've been working on merging their IT systems,

PLUS I've just made my first serious foray into writing PHP for the web.

This is all in addition to my normal work of providing support for our UK customers, and continuing the development of our "shrink-wrap" software.

I guess you would say that I'm just kind of busy right now!
:) You've been missed.

Hope it's all going well.

Apologies to mjd for hijack of post
rojash ... congrats on being such a hard worker ... a rarity these days. What does PHP mean please?
Paff, Since rojash would appear to be so busy, may I give you the answer?

Originally, it stood for 'Personal Home Page' but now It it has been redefined as: 'Hypertext Preprocessor'.

PHP is a scripting language that is used by website designers to generate dynamic webpages. Typically, it draws its data from a database.
and mjd, the answer to your original question was not quite accurately given by rojash. The HTML codes are not part of the pr@t's username - they have been included in the text of the message itself.
I could be wrong, gen2, but I'm going on the fact that the user name itself is also italicised and underlined.
Rojash - it is the user ABOVE the bold and underlined username.

Look at the page source and you will see he ends his posts with < b > etc

Hello Ethel, whilst I know how to do the bold, italics, underlining, ina posting I'm not quite sure exactly IYA does (I assume he doesn't close off the HTML).
I notice that although it's the postings below that are affected I think Rojash has a point in that IYA's/Sir Gravy's/Whitebeer's name is underlined on his/her posting.
You seem to understand the HTML issue Ethel- is there something the next poster could do to stop this- can the next poster after IYA not put in the required HTML code to nullify what IYA does?
Or should we just ignore IYA and leave it to AB editor?
Well, better people than me have been trying today to do something about it, without much success, as far as I can tell.

Whilst some users do have html in their usernames to make them underlined, I specifically viewed the pages affected and could clearly see the html at the end of the post. Because it is at the end, it affects everything beneath it, making the poster look innocent.

You can see it on this page:
http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Que stion608468.html

Now click View - Page Source

There is reams and reams of text and html, so click Edit -Find and in the box type

< u >

without spaces. You will see exactly what I mean. It follows on from 'two faced ramplings. welcome back'
Yes, you are right, Ethel. I hadn't bothered to view the source, and made the erroneous assumption that, because the user name appeared before the question (on the list page), it was published before the question. Looking at the source, it's clear that the question is published first, so the user name is affected as well.
roj - would there be a way of putting html in a subsequent to negate it? Such as < / b >?
And Rojash, my instructions were in response to Factor30 - I'm fully aware you know how to view the page source.

:)
Funny you should ask that, Ethel. I tried it the other day, in response to the Tomatoes question. It doesn't work for the list page, obviously, because the responses don't appear on the list. I think it worked for the answers page - but I just went back to check, and it seems that AB have finally removed the user, as I can no longer find the question.
Hi Rojash,
I tried to counteract the formatting but it didn't work for me either. If you still want to view an example you can find examples under whitebeer's recent postings

"If you still want to view an example you can find examples under whitebeer's recent postings

..... This Page Cannot Be Displayed.
(???)
Yes, Whitebeer's two postings on the Animals & Nature site (I remember one was about dogs & condoms) were still on last night and left the usual IYA/Sir-gravy trail of underlinings, italics and bold, but following a number of reportings the AB editor has acted and removed them.
