I believe the strongest material is diamond. It is used in anvils for crushing other materials and as the reference surface in high pressure sensors.

I read recently that strongest material is a type of diamond assembled from carbon nanoeshperes (bucky balls). It is a tiny fraction stronger than ordinary diamond.
Don't confuse hard with strong. Diamond is the hardest known natural substance, but it's also brittle. It's easy to shatter a diamond with a hammer blow, or even crack it by dropping it on a concrete floor.
A woman in stilletto heels applies more psi on the heel than an elephant.
Surely an elephant in high heels would exert more pressure per square inch than a woman....

Need figures please ie- Titanic broke at 35000 tonnes pounds per square inch - what can cope with higher loads than that?
