Why do bees die after there stinger drops?

The stinger is barbed. It tears out of their body after use. A suicide weapon.

not all species of bee die after stinging. Drone honey bees do for instance but bumbebees do not.

Pedantically, it's only the male bumble bees that can't sting... females can but don't die afterwards since the stinger is not barbed as in honeybees...
