mri scan on head, zip on trouser

i'm having a mri scan, on my head and have made sure i havent got any metal on my top half, but my zip on my school tousers are metal, will i have to take them off?

When I had an MRI scan on the head I was totally enclosed in the machine and had to remove all top clothing. So yes, I would expect you will.

A lot of people have mercury fillings. I don't know how this would affect the scan?

Doesn't seem to affect the scan. Mercury doesn't react to magnetism.

ct scan i meant and tomorrow. whats the difference in the rays they use? i know a ct scan is a donut and a mri is a tube (i've had both before but can't remember stuff about metal.

This is going to sound stupid but can't you just take a pair of trousers that don't have a zip? Jogging bottoms don't, not unless I'm still 20 years behind on the fashion.

Chances are you will be made to wear a gown which will cover any personal areas. Other than that I don't think you have to worry. You shouldn't go in with anything magnetic, like mentioned above.

yeah but i have to go straight to school, on my own afterwards and don't have room to carry my pair of quite bulky jogging bottoms.

Also, you wouldn't get me to lay there (if laid down) for that length of time in school trousers, I'd rather be naked, at least that way it's more comfortable!

Tell the school that they either keep your jogging bottoms locked somewhere for the day or you're going to wear them all day. Tell them to stick it, I would.

If you can't carry your clothes around all day and they don't offer to keep hold of them for you in order for you to change after your last lesson then I'd just go in with them on. If you tell them that you can't wear anything metallic theres **** all they can do - trust me.

I bet that most students would have all day off school for a MRI scan. I knew people at my school that took the day off to go to the dentists at 3pm - which is a joke.

it would be ok if ym parents could go with me, then i could go in joggers and change into school trousers and they take the joggers home, but because i'm 16, both their works have said that i can take my slef, so they don't need to go with me.

oh for god's sake, what's up with either rolling them up in your school bag or putting them in a tesco carrier?
Anyway, just wear the zipped ones and put a gown on which you will probably have to do anyway

I understand that mollykins but what I am saying is that the school can't do anything if you turned up for school wearing inappropriate clothing if you have a valid reason. It would of probably been better if you had informed the school of this beforehand though. If you're not happy about going into school wearing jogging bottoms (assuming you're a girl and you take fashion more seriously than I do) then I wouldn't worry about it because if they do need you to remove your clothing they will give you a gown and a place to change into it.

Oh Mollykins, that is so said that neither parent can go with you. How unreasonable of their employers. I am 62 and wouldn't like to go for an MRI by myself. Have you a family friend or relation that can go along with you. I think you should take a day off school - have a word with someone at the school - you surely have a teacher who undertakes pastoral duties. Explain to them about the problem - I am sure they will be helpful.

bednobs: A 16 year old walking about with a carrier bag, heh I used to get slated for having a rucksack with the name "patrick" on the back lol. I was called patrick for 4 years, not to mention I was mugged a few times. I don't know mate, school kids eh!

i cant fit them in my bag, and i can't bike with a carrier bag.

i've been before and i'm rwally tall and the gowns aren't long enough, they come down as far as a pair of short shorts, thats why i dont want to wear a gown with no trousers.
