How many miles per litre is this?

As a rough guide when I fill up I note the number of litres of fuel inserted. Then I multiply by 10. This gives the approx range I can travel on that purchase. My car has a similar mpg to yours.

1 gallon (imp) = 4.546L ...
So .. 42/4.546 = 9.2 miles.

miles per litre is a very strange mix of units to want to know, kilometres per litre is the standard metric measurement for this (which would be 14.8KM per litre).
