They're made of a furry fabric, bulky fabrics keep you warm because air is trapped. Woolies keep you warm, as do duvets. Not technical enough to tell you why in the laws of physics, sorry!

But as there are no ankles visible in cazzz's new avatar I was merely suggesting you might not be seeing the latest avatar and clearing your cache would let you see the new image.

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clearer, CTRL+F5 will work on most browsers, but if you want help on how to clear the cache on other, more obscure, browsers just post it as a question.
