Will the presence of alcohol in my system effect the hydroxybutyrate reading on my ketone/ diabetes monitor (blood not urine sample)?

It depends. Raised hydroxybutyrate readings are typical of persistent binge drinkers who consume very little or no food after stopping drinking. Peak levels of ketones are usually achieved around two days following stoppage.
Without having further information on your precise drinking habits, it's not possible to form an opinion about how likely you are to have condition.
Compare diabetic ketoacidosis with alcoholic ketoacidosis for more information. Incidentally, I'm not implying you're an alcoholic!.
