why does moon give off light
this may sound like a stupid qeustion but why does the moon light up so much i was looking at it tonight and it was so bright.i cant understand where the light comes from

The moon also reflects sunlight that has been reflected from the earth except when it is in the earth's shadow. Normally it is difficult to see as the eye is dazzled by the part of the moon reflecting the sun, but when the moon is 'new' and there is only a sliver of direct solar illumination it is quite easy to see.
