First Year Ever I Don't Feel Like Putting Decs Up.

I had to have my dog put to sleep last week . She was nearly 14yrs and I have no interest in putting Christmas decs up this year.

I am not miserable about Christmas. I love to see them everywhere else but just don't want or need them in my house this year.

Am I being a bahhh humbug?

There is no rule. If you don't feel like it don't. I haven't bothered since children moved out. I put up cards and that's about it. Sorry to hear about your loss. Wish you happy Christmas.

No you are not, I lost mine back in February and I don't want decs up either. My dog was my world and I am still floundering !! There's always other years. My heart goes out to you, ( hug ) xx

No, you're not. I lost my Golden Retriever two years ago and didn't get another as I couldn't put myself through the heartbreak again. They take part of you with them.

No, you do what you feel is right for you. I felt the same after 13 years with my pet and I still miss him. I will put my tree up because it makes me feel cheerier on these cold dark days.

Thank you! I will just put cards up. I shall not be getting another dog as I have had two put to sleep in the last three years and I can't face that again.

Of course you're not being bahh humbug,you've lost a dear friend and it will be a while before you come to terms with it. We lost Max nearly two years ago and still miss him but we've now getting to the stage when we can remember him and smile.

I would consider getting another dog, though. If you can look after another pet, then have one. The heartbreak you feel at the moment will be replaced with joy. Go for it, if you can and are able.

Sorry to hear your news. It is now 13 weeks since we lost our cat and we feel the same. He used to sit under the tree playing with the baubles. We are still grieving and miss him very much so we understand how you feel. We are not sure when it will get any easier either.

Re getting another dog. My Charlie had to be put down last September, and I loved him to bits. However a few weeks after I adopted another dog, An otherwise homeless one, and it was the right thing to do for me. New dogs do not replace old dogs...they add to them.

I have had many dogs in my life and they have all given me so much enjoyment and laughter over the years. I have had to have them all put to sleep and have always stayed with them as it was the last kindness I could show them. I lost my darling jack russell, Ben, in February of this year and he was the most loyal loveable dog I have ever had. I know I will always miss him, but decided in the summer I must get another dog as the house was not the same without one. I now have a 5 month old yorkie, such fun and so loveable, brought the house alive again. If you can give a dog love, friendship and a lovely life, then go and get another one shitzu blue, you will never regret it. I know there is the sadness of having to end its life, but more often than not, it is the last thing you can do for them to end their suffering and if they have had a wonderful life with you, what more could they wish for. So many dogs nowadays in rescues are put to sleep too young, perhaps when the time is right next year you might save one of these poor animals.
