Someone was telling me that to drink a pint in a tent in the cold at Belfast Christmas Market would cost you £6. If you wanted a hamburger to go with it you'd pay the same.
Are they all rip offs?

Went to Birmingham last week, hot wine was £4.50,beer £4.00 pint, Bratwurst or baked ham in a roll were either £4.50 or £5.00. In fact nearly everything seemed to be in that price range.
I think that price might include the cost of the glass hire- this is refundable
lass/mug hire was £3.00 extra per item, refunded by handing back with the token they give you.
Lass!!! don't think they were hiring any of them out. 'Glass'

That could explain it. I haven't been in a bar for a fair while but can't imagine even the poshest of them here charging £6.

The Birmingham prices don't seem too bad.
I find that all the Christmas markets in this country are a rip off.
I don't go near them or purchase anything from them.
You can't beat the real thing abroad for quality or competitive prices.
My cousin went to one in Germany last year whilst on a 3 day trip and said it was very cheap with good food and hot drinks and gifts. In this country we are only playing at it.
they're dearer than anything I've experienced abroad. But then that's true of a lot of things in Britain.
Far as I could see in Manchester, it was full of stuff you didn't need or want with a hefty price tag, sold from a garden shed. What's that all about?
4 years ago I went to one in my home town. Went to the French cheese stall and asked if they had any real unpasteurised Camembert. Was offered a tub of pasteurised @£2.50, the same brand being sold @ Morrisons 5 mins walk away for £1.25. Never been back since.

No wonder they come to Brum then, Fanriffic. More money to be made.

In a way I suppose it's no different from the refreshment stalls you see at amusement parks/fairgrounds. It's an attraction; probably kids in tow so they have a captive audience. No parent wants to be seen a meanie.
