All this media exhortation to provide a 'magical', 'wonderful', 'special' Christmas is a pain in the bum.

It is a couple of days in the year. Let's just enjoy it as we see fit!

Magic, wonder and speciality are hard to come by.

Does it get on your wick?

Waitrose email:-

'Your guide to a glorious Christmas.'..........what?
Very much so Tilly,

Channel 5 started their Afternoon Xmas movies 10 days ago.

On Mon to Friday, I assume till New Year.

Chris, I'd welcome anything by Carol Ann Duffy!

It's not the Christmas season that I object to. It's the pressure that is put on to make everything 'wonderful'.

I quite like the current Tesco ad, where the woman thinks that it's too far early to start thinking about Christmas. At least one retailer (or, rather, their advertising agency) seems to have picked up on the mood of many people!

(If you're into poetry,Tilly2, I'll have to write something for you. I might not be as good as Ms Duffy but a few people seem to enjoy my occasional jottings)
"It's the pressure that is put on to make everything 'wonderful"

Well it's much better than trying to make everything terrible, lol.

Personally I love it, the lights, the songs, a time for reflection, giving to the needy, catching up with old friends and family over good food and drinks and the occasional naughty buy or two.

I love Christmas too. I just don't like the expectation that it will be magical. It won't. It will be a lovely time with my family and friends but it won't be glorious or wonderful or magical. It will just be a lovely couple of days.

Chris, please do write something for me. I would love that.
I'll try to work on it, Tilly2. (I'll have to see if the muse strikes me!)

There's an example of my kind of rubbish towards the end of this thread:

Chris, I read that earlier. I was impressed.

As and when......It will be appreciated.
I think its a sickness of modern society to chase perfection by spending money. The wedding has to be “perfect” the annual holiday has to be “perfect” and yes, the Christmas has to be “perfect” too. I think magic and wonder come when you aren’t chasing it and least expect it.
The Tesco ad started well pointing out that for yet another year they're pushing their stock far too early and imposing prematurely again. But as they are trying to get you to think it's ok after all they inevitably tried to turn it into an, "it actually ok, flog all your out of season stuff to me anyway", viewpoint. But we're not daft, we can see what the marketing department is trying to pull. It's still far too early, ad or no ad.
it's BIRTHDAY season !!! have I mentioned it of late ?? lol

Not lately, Minty but there's time yet.
hmmmmm...;0)
If it is, then it lasts longer than Xmas !
i laugh every year at people who get stressed out over xmas its 2 days off work...thats it!!!
If my grandkids knew all these 'magical' words I think they would definitely use every one of them.
Xmas isnt about us is about those who still believe in Santa Claus.
For me, I love the build up to Xmas seen through the growing excitement of children.
