Well around Liverpool, they sold whitewash, blue, canes, hooks and screws and nails and bucket washers and scrubbing brushes and mops and cups and saucers and cloths and cleaning stuff and they had a smell.

I used to love the smell of them!

Yes Baths, that smell has pretty much disappeared for ever now.
The only thing to to beat the smell of an old ironmongers is a second hand book shop .....or swarfega :-)
So sad. I wonder where my love of the smell of putty came from?
