Very occasionally there was a 'banger' let off in the street but they were nothing like today's explosions.
Over the years people have abused that choice & the fireworks have become too frequent & way too powerful...because of that it's time to put some restrictions in force.

I was talking to a friend earlier in the week. He had been to a family firework party where 200 had been spent on fireworks. He was laughing about the fact that it seemed to be only the adults that took any notice of the fireworks - the kids just ran around generally enjoying themselves playing outside and having fun as children do!! (and of course they enjoyedthe sparklers)
Looking at the fireworks on display for general sale now, I must say they are far more sophisticated and bigger and better than anything we had years ago. Even the bangers are made to create much louder explosions. It is time that this issue is looked at more seriously.
I I do like having fun triggerhippy and enjoy seeing others having fun also!!!

Even if you do not have pets it is worth reading this as it covers the other reasons that fireworks should not now be on general sale. I find it difficult to find any arguments against what this states.

I love fireworks - and yes, we had a bonfire party for the children. The only ones to go with a "bang" were a few Roman Candles, which turned out to be pretty, but quite feeble - and 4 small rockets. Despite that, we had some super Catherine Wheels and standing fireworks which just emitted showers of colourful sparks - plus a good fire. Our dogs were out with us for the whole time, and just sat there taking no notice at all - but then, they're used to all this by now. If people act responsibly, then I see no reason for banning fireworks, but I appreciate other's concerns.
