It is my understanding that Oliver Cromwell banned mince pies - and a lot of other things - because he thought them frivolous or not in keeping with the puritanical ethos.
Probably a lwa which has not been overturned ~ like many, however nobody is going to get arrested for it ;o)
That was supposed to read 'LAW' damn my typing!

Thank you for your answer - sounds good to me - I like mince pies at any time, warm from the oven, with a dusting of icing sugar and loads of fresh cream....
I can only eat them at Christmas! it's just the same with turkey, sprouts and Christmas pudding. It doesn't seem right to have them all year round.

I am the same with hot cross buns, lol.
Yum
Yes, it's true about Oliver Cromwell, Little Plant.
He banned them along with Christmas as he considered them guilty, forbidden pleasures. Remember that when you're tucking in!
I'll be breaking the law on Xmas day then!
Under Cromwell & his puritans it was, however, the tradition is that you should eat a mince pie every day for 12 days up to the 25th December in a different house. In order to create a more sociable society.
Merry Xmas
