The best new year I ever had, I couldn't drink because I was pregnant - it was also the millenium. My husband and I wrapped up warm and walked to the top of the local hills (at that time I lived near Edinburgh) and we sat on the hill and watched the fireworks across the city. Absolutely amazing and I will never forget it.
New years since have been quiet because of the kids.
Why not camp out, have a barbeque and sit up with a few drinks and watch the near year arrive.
Never said you did. Just pointing out that it's not, that doing nothing in particular can actually be 'something to do', and that there's no need to feel you have to 'do something' just because the world expects it.
What you might like to consider is spending some time thinking about the difference between someone trying to give you an honest, well-meant suggestion and someone being 'rude'.
