What are French knickers called in other countries?

They can't only be worn in the U.K., so do other countries call them French knickers? Presumably they don't in France!

Were they not called directoire knickers?
They probably call them English something - I don't know why we call so many things French, French bread, French toast... etc. :-)
They're called Tap pants in the US apparently, must say, French Knickers ounds better.
Tempted to say they call them "knickers" in France (or whatever the French for knickers is). But the smart money is probably on "English knickers" as it always seems to go like that.
