How to get rid of a smell

My husband has a 65% polyester / 35% cotton casual fleece type top. The top has a smell to it that I can`t get rid of despite several washes, spraying with Febreeze + leaving outside in fresh air. The smell resembles a sulphur type of whiff which is quite strong. I can only think it is something used in the dying process, but am at a loss on how to get rid of it. Can someone help please.
