As a 50 year old man myself, I would be a bit insulted by a mug and chocolates, no offence to the previous poster. As she said, it depends on personality and likes/dislikes.

I like to think I'm still young at heart, and would prefer a gadget (iPod/Digital Player/decent pair of in-ear headphones), a CD or book gift voucher, or the actual thing if you know his tastes in either, or even a PC/Console game, if he's into that?
