Izal Toilet Paper

This hard paper is no longer made. Does anyone out there know where I can still buy it please? The last lot I bought on ebay a couple of years ago in bulk. I looked on ebay today and there is just ONE toilet roll with bids over £3 for the one roll!! Thanks in advance (is for my Husband of 73, not me!!)

You'll have to bring him kicking and screaming in to the 21st century - the eBay sellers are getting very greedy starting at £15 a roll

An alternative would be to substitute it for sandpaper - he probably wouldn't notice the difference

I googled this and on about page 5 there is a post on a forum which says that Tesco in Ilfracombe stocks Izal. No idea if it's tru but you could try to give em a ring:)

I can remember my late father-in-law would only use Izal toilet paper, he said he kept putting his fingers through the soft paper - (:0/

I think Asda stores still sell Izal or they did last time I shopped there and happened to glance quite surprisingly that it was sitting on the shelf lol.

The last time I looked Tescos in Blackpool sold it.

All the supermarkets sold it until recently. It is not being made any more so if the stocks are gone they won't be replaced.
That is why it is fetching silly money on eBay.

With great respect, why on earth would he want to use Izal toilet paper? We had it at school in the 40's and 50's and it's awful Tell him you fold the soft paper into a sort of pad. He can't really clean himself with Izal (oh no, too much information!)

They probably still have it in prisons (they punished you with it in the 70's) ask the Justice Dept. where they get it.

you dont mean the squares of Izal that used to slide off your bum at school ? and the teacher used to dish you out two squares at a time - that brings back memories but I wouldnt want to use it now, but to each his own !

This thread reminded me of my time in the RAF. Every sheet of toilet paper was stamped " government property".

It used to make great tracing paper. If during a lesson we were required to copy a map or diagram one of us would be deputed to ask permission to go to the toilet and come back with a pocketful of Izal to share out amongst the class.

Never thought of using if for tracing paper Mike....my father would not use any other lavatory paper.....each to his own as they say but yuk....not my choice!

For those in the know, the trick with Izal was to scrunch it up a couple of times, then smooth it out. That made it quite a bit softer.
Few people realize that Izal and other hard toilet papers were manufactured to be gas-proof. The idea was that germs then couldn't pass through the paper onto your hands.

THANKYOU ALL.........I will look in my Asda, but don't hold much hope if it is not being made any more. My husband is 73 now and too late to change, he uses soft paper as well each time, not that you want to know this!! No, he is not going to Prison........ Thankyou for your thoughts.
