I've bought the obligatory parts of the uniform (with school badge) for our 4 year old who is starting school in September, however, can you recommend the best place to purchase a skirt, pinafore dress and polo shirts please? I've noticed that M&S, Asda, Tesco, etc all sell them, however, we will have to travel to these stores as I would like our daughter to try them on for size.

Which store would you recommend I buy the rest of the uniform from please?

I always buy pinafore dresses from M&S (about £12per dress). They wear and wash so well I can pass them onto my youngest daughter. I found that Asda were ok but the quality was not as good as M&S. I usually buy Asda polo shirts, they wash well and keep their colour.
I like Next for my boys trousers, so I guess their pinafores/skirts will be good too. Sainsburys polo shirts are nice, but the best I have had came from Adams - now only available on-line with a very limited range. M&S polo shirts tend to shrink - are pretty neat to begin with and once they have shrunk, they just feel a bit thick. The Next polo shirts are okay, but we have to have sky blue and theirs are a bit of a weird shade. Haven't tried Tesco's polo shirts as our local one only stocks white which is no use to me.
If you buy online with M&S you simply return the goods if they don't fit.... I know people who order 2-3 different sizes and simply send back the ones that don't fit.
Awww bless, 4 years and starting school in September! (Take me back quite a few years) I found Asda's George range to be value for money in both polo shirts and trousers. (Eventually they stocked jumpers of a colour suitable for school-wear) Everything washed well, didn't go out of shape nor lose colour.
Tesco jumpers and cardigans are ok. They lose their shape and have 'bobbles' after a few months, but at a couple a quid a throw, i don't mind, just buy four or five to start off with.
I get my sons trousers from M&S and get his polo shirts from Next.. both are really good quality and last well. Wash lovely too :) I find Matalans polo tops shrink and the colour fades too easily :)
It is a black humor ,~_~
Yes, I would recommend that your daughter tries on various uniforms. For instance I always found that the M&S long sleeved shirts didn't fit my sons very well, but the BHS ones were a perfect fit. I think it depends on the shop and the size of the item.
Interrupting your thread , but may raise a smile. When I was 11 years of age , got a blazer for the senior school. It came down to my knees and way passed my finger tips .When I left the school at 16 , it fitted a treat but was completely threadbare. Happy days --eh?

Brenda - that story you told of the school blazer made me smile! My Dad would only ever buy clothes that were a few sizes too big for us and preferably in a unisex design so that they would last for as long as possible. I remember having to wear a heavy duffel coat in the winter that was then passed down to my brother who was 3 years younger (I'm a lass). I used to hate the heavy garment with its thick, hard-to-do-up wooden buttons and distinctly unfashionable look. Now I see students wearing the expensive coat and looking great (and fashionable). How times have changed.................x
