Try ebay, they sell everything
My OH works outside and has work issued waterproofs. Really good....maybe try googling work clothes.
depends on how much you want to pay - good makes are The North Face, Berghaus, Sprayway, Craghoppers, TOG24, Jack wolfskin- a good waterproof that doesn't make you sweat will contain goretex or sympatex as part of the description, other brands that are worth a look are Didriksons, then you have Trespass, Regatta further down the price range. Millets do their own brand too which is a bit more budget.

If you are willing to buy on-line, then google these makes and look for the best deals, Craghoppers have their own site and I think they have a sale on just now.
Go Outdoors are good for this sort of thing. They often have short term reductions as well.
Meant to add, that most of the original designs for these companies were strickly practical for hill walking/climbing and really outdoorsie stuff, but they all recognise now that people want to have decent jackets to wear about town too and do some smarter designs. Saw a guy with a really nice Didricksons one the other day in a dark brown.

It's a shell that you are looking for, windproof and waterproof, and you can layer for the weather underneath.
Superdrys are good! Pricey but worth it! Can be bought in all sizes, colours & if you want hoods or not!
despite the name, not all Superdry jackets are waterproof - it's a brand name and they do produce some jackets which are waterproof so you need to be careful.

Thank you all very much for all your help. I started looking today in town and I will look on web as well for any on sale. It`s so helpful to get such a helpful response so quickly. I do appreciate it.
if it was around the countryside, you can't beat a barbour, they do all different styles, jackets and coats, and good quality. If its a jacket, that's a good waterproof, then as others have said Northface, but they come up pretty pricey.
Regatta do decent outdoor coats too. Had mine about 6 years or so and still keeps me dry.
A couple of years ago in Edinburgh I went into either Millets or Blacks and I bought a jacket from a company called Peter Storm. Its the best lightweight weather proof I have ever owned.
Dave, most likely millets, as not sure Blacks do Peter Storm gear. Also good place is a shop called The Edinburgh and Woollen Mill something, you would find them on the web, they have shops around UK, and do an assortment of ladies, mens wear and their waterproofs and wet weather gear are good value.

So kind of you all to help me with suggestions. I have been looking at some.
Thanks to all.
The name exactly gives it away but with the hood on one of them I think they are good!
Milletts do Peter Storm which would be suitable for your purpose.
