I'm thinking of Comet in particular but the question applies to shops in general - since a lot of shops have sales on for most of the year, are goods significantly cheaper in the New Year sales than in the pre-Christmas sales?
I don't usually change my shopping habits because of sales at any time of the year and so have never bothered to notice such things in the past.
My laptop expired on the 20 December 2009 and we were going on holiday the next day so I did not replace it until after christmas.
I looked at an advert on the 21 December and the one I had after christmas was advertised in Curry's at £479.99.
I got it for £449.99 early in January from the same shop.
sales are no longer the same. if you read the small print on thing theyve often been at a higher price in 3 stores in the outer hebrides for 32 mins on the 3rd tuesday of the month.
It does depend on what you want to buy though, shop around, some electrical goods are offered "half price" by some stores before christmas.
I'm looking to replace a laptop but I won't have enough money to buy one until the week starting on 19th December. I like the idea of having a new one to play around with during the holiday period but because money is tight I was wondering whether it would be more sensible to wait until after.
(I mention Comet in particular not only because they are by far the closest electrical retailer to where I live but also because I have bought various items, such as my current laptop, from them over the years and have been very happy with those items)
i would get the specs of what you like the look of at comet and then look online at other retailers. I have to say that i have never found Comet to be good with prices unless i have had price match or got discounts for buying a few items in one go. I dont have experience of laptops though.
