Had my current bed for about 10 years and think its time for an upgrade. I've seen some in idea that I like but they are considerably cheaper than other beds I've seen. Does anyone have one or have any idea of the quality (assuming its assembled well in the first place)?

AHH! I meant Ikea not idea.
They don't usually come with mattresses....and they are the expensive part.

I bought my daughter an IKEA bed...wasn't very impressed with it.
I have to agree with ummm, anything I have bought furniture wise from ikea has been quite flimsy and crap. I would try the bed warehouse or dreams, failing that argos do some good deals

I was hoping to find a cheaper bed as I would need a new mattress too, the current bed and mattress will go in the spare room for guests but I don't want to end up having to replace a bed that fall apart in a couple of years and the two of you obviously aren't rushing to praise Ikea. Might look around the other bed places again.
we have the malm one I think for our spare room and it's fine - you need to add in the cost of the bases (slats) and mattress as well as the frame. They are also not standard size so you have to get the mattress there though you can get away with normal bedding. Ours isn't used every day but seems sturdy enough. The advantage it has for us is that we are tall so their king is a bit longer than normal though slightly narrower. We always use the spare when we have guests to save them sharing a bathroom with the kids.

Hang on Annie, you mean they sell the bed without the slats?

Oh, the one I was looking at seems like it does come wth them. Although that's a good point about the mattress, you're sort of obliged to buy an ikea one. Hhmmmmm....
yes - well they did when we bought it - I think it's cos you can choose to put a solid base in instead - i'd just check what's included before you buy.
just checked - the one we have is this one and they do include the slats:

we got the foam mattress as we don't use it everyday and it's perfectly comfy.
I got mine from Homebase - slatted bottom.
I got mine last year from M&S................love it.

That's nice Craft, although quite different to what I'm after and rather more than I'd want to pay, especially with a mattress to buy on top of it.

I don't seem to have gathered yet that 50 quid is probably not going to get me much :)
Question Author
Annie, not sure the foam one would be best for me as it would be my every day bed. Might have to go to ikea and jump on some of them to test them out :)

Evian - for our main bed we have a proper orthopedic mattress that cost more than the whole ikea bed and the side tables put together. But if you are on a budget they are fine.
Will be looking for a bed soon ourselves but it won't be one with slats not keen on them.If you don't need storage draws in the base then you should pick one up at a reasonable price, always try the bed and mattress out in the store, I don't buy one without laying on them first you will see they are marked up one to five for soft to hard can't remember which way round but don't be afraid to try them they should have foot covers on the mattress
hi, we've had a sultan (the mattress is the base), for 15 years! It came with a 10 year guarantee, but now comes with a 25 year guarantee!
We are saving up to buy another, although the other is still going strong! the best bed we have ever slept in!

I bought mine from Ikea and it is great. I have had it for two years now and it is very comfortable.
